FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY SHORT TERM COURSE | SCHOOL OF FASHION AND THE ARTS MANILA

Currently teaching what I do best... here:

When asked by the Dean of Academics of SoFA Manila, on how I will approach the class as an instructor, here's my answer:

Approach on Fashion Photography via Conceptual/Academic, Technical/Vocational and Design Support

As someone with a background in traditional Fine Arts, I can best share knowledge through a process from creating art I learned and practice. They say, good art inspires and great design motivates. As an artist, knowing that art can be interpreted differently, this makes it more easier for me to connect on each individual with a point of view. Since the fundamental purpose of the course is to communicate a message through learning the technical aspects in an academic environment through a photography course, the artist's point of view is a welcome approach in determining a good sense of opinion about fashion photography. I always considered  good fashion photographs as art, and having the ability to acknowledge good art is I think, having a good taste. While learning technical skills can prove to be a good advantage, having knowledge in creating good sense of visual composition, like the process accomplished in creating an artwork, can prove to be a fresh and effective approach in both the field of Fashion and Photography. Veering away from the technical-heavy aspect of it, after it has been taught and learned, a more conceptual approach to fashion photography can provide participants of the course dynamic sensibilities in fashion photography.

THE ODDITIES

This 2012, I have been doing a lot of updates and changes with my career in general. Looking to tap more media in this new year, beating the 2011 shenanigans I've done out of laziness to oblivion. Looking to be more productive and finding every possible way(may it be big or small) to generate any form of creative output, is I think the 'General Plan'. So, to start, Eric Poliquit and I shot some 'oddities' yet again. It has been somewhat a form of 'tension' release, boredom eliminator and a great exercise in creative approach to do something that is organic and instantaneous with our resources... As a resolution, I am even possible to open my horizon's in contributing to local publications this year, I kinda eased my way in via contributing to several in the latter parts of 2011, but hoping that most of them too are now more open to not only present editorials-that-sell-to-possibly-but-not-totally-mediocre-minded-buying-public but editorials-worthy-of-international-standards-of-excellence-without-the-feel-of-an-overly-copied-editorial-from-a-magazine-abroad too. In the creative world: You get what you give! ... and if you put out all that is average, you find yourself flushed in glam-ified mediocrity. But I am hopeful! :) On that note, I'll send good vibrations in oddities of craziness and surprises so as it will flourish all throughout my 2012, hopefully, in your 2012 too.

For the road less traveled, it is the road I feel much comfortable walking with Eric in to.

Tagging along Eric Poliquit to tackle fashion styling, and all that is there in the fashion scene. I love how it is turning full circle now that I am the one doing the talk, having graduated from the same university as a student. Last year was so much fun with Mapua - Multimedia Arts students.
